The Strarign PCM/TDM Demodulator, in conjunction with any phase stable receiver, provides the capability to demodulate and monitor any standard and non-standard TDM transmissions having bit rates ranging from 50 kb/sec to 52Mb/sec for QPSK transmissions and 100 kb/sec to 26 Mb/sec for BPSK transmissions.
The PCM/TDM Demodulator has been designed for use
with transmissions that have been severely degraded from low signal
levels and adjacent spurious interference carriers. Adjacent channel
interference is minimized through the use of a Surface Acoustic Wave
(SAW) Intermediate Frequency (IF) band pass filter, followed by a modified
Costas loop QPSK/BPSK demodulator. The SAW IF filter results in excellent
out-of-band rejection while maintaining flat in-band envelope delay
(phase) characteristics.

The I and Q channel outputs from the QPSK and the single output from the BPSK demodulator are available on BNC connectors located on both the front and rear panels of the demodulator. These can be used by the operator to monitor the critical "eye" and constellation patterns of the demodulated waveform to accommodate optimum RF receiver tuning and IF selection, and general signal analysis. |
|
Modularity has been designed into every active element of the demodulator to produce a unit that is field repairable utilizing unskilled personnel. The mean-time-to repair (MTTR) for the unit is well within 30 minutes for any failure. |
